Fire Safety in Dental Practices: What the Law Requires and Where Practices Get Caught Out

From 9 February 2026, CQC requires a current fire risk assessment as a mandatory pre-condition of dental practice registration — not a document to be supplied later. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 imposes a legal duty on every responsible person to carry out, implement, and regularly review a fire risk assessment. A dental practice that fails a fire safety inspection can face enforcement from two bodies simultaneously: the local Fire and Rescue Authority and CQC.
